Housing VAM

Housing VAM is a quick, open and assisted assessment targeted at national housing programmes and large projects. It provides, with valuable feedback on gaps and potential to shift towards more sustainable construction. Upon completing the questionnaire, users will receive a summarized feedback report and the possibility to request a detailed assessment with our technical. The feedback report provides information on highlights, gaps and main areas of improvement, performance against the different SDGs and recommendations of relevant certifications relevant to the project itself. It likewise provides users links to main housing standards, regulations and ISO regulations, SDGs and other tools and resources.

To achieve this, the tool combines a qualitative and quantitative analysis method based on 4 sections of analysis: context governance & regulations; resources & circularity; environmental impact & resiliency; housing and urban design. These sections are subdivided in 14 Chapters revealing the details of the performance of the project itself and how to upgrade it.

Housing questionnaire

The Housing Value Assessment Methodology (VAM) is a tool to analyze the value of shifting towards more sustainable national housing programmes or large projects

  1. Analyses sustainability of housing programmes from the design stages.
  2. Identifies the gaps for improvement
  3. Provides inputs and recommendations on how to strengthen those gaps.
  4. Enables opportunities for the housing programme to link to sustainability certifications, access to funding programmes, link to SDGs and New Urban Agenda and access to international awards.

Feedback Report

The main feature of the VAM is the ability to conduct rapid and assisted assessments of housing programmes and projects, with valuable feedback on gaps and potentials to shift towards more sustainable construction practices. Upon completing an assessment, users will receive an accurate digital assessment and a tailored feedback report. This will become the main added value intrinsic to utilising this tool as it will offer feedback on performance of the proposed programme or project. This includes areas for improvement; warning signs to address; technical recommendations, and a set of data and charts which will relate the assessed programme or project to SDG, NUA, and Human Rights frameworks.

Certifications and awards

The housing VAM Feedback report its a technical document by UN-Habitat that assesses the national housing programme or large project in 4 levels:

  • Technical Feedback: Feedback report: Identifying areas of improvement, recommendations, links to standards and regulations.
  • Awards and United Nations recognition: Connection and link to UN system of awards and recognition. (World Habitat Awards, COP Awards, Innovation Challenges...etc.)
  • SDG and New Urban Agenda: Human rights assessment on the programme highlighting the performance of the programme regarding SDGs
  • Certification and access to funding programs: Highlight recommendations of certifications or link to green financing opportunities
